Summer has Come in Madrid and… Pollen!

Hello, all!

I’m San, the other co-author of this blog that Fi mentioned in the previous post. As some of you might have known, I live in Madrid, Spain, and summer has come to this beautiful town. Summer coming equals spring ending, and that means pollen. According to Wikipedia:

Pollen is a fine to coarse powder containing the microgametophytes of seed plants, which produce the male gametes (sperm cells).

Which means, it’s reproduction time for plants! And it occurred last week in Madrid, with a lot of fine powder and cotton flying in the air.

Pollen causes allergy to many people, excluding some. I’m one of those lucky persons who was (mind the past tense) never affected by the pollen. I have friends who also fall into this category.

However, last week, an overload of pollen hit the city. I was walking home perfectly fine with a co-worker and I had to keep my sunglasses on so pollen wouldn’t enter my eyes. However, after a few hundred meters walking, I started sneezing many times and ended up walking and talking with her with my mouth covered. I arrived home sneezing and coughing and almost immediately went to sleep.

The next day, I woke up with a headache and a lot of snot. I sneezed a few times, but then I realized I wasn’t well. I can recognize my being sick from my breath: if my breath feels hot, I’m down. So I texted a co-worker and told her that I can’t come to work because I didn’t feel well. And, through the whole day, all I did was sleep – eat – sleep – eat – and occasional peeing.

My boyfriend accompanied me throughout the whole thing ♥ But, aside from the pollen phenomenon that occurs every time spring changes to summer, I had a good time in the city, noting the changes that always happens at this time.

Cafes are also now putting out seats and tables.

Somehow, today my body’s condition dropped again so I had to stay in. Thinking of it, yesterday I went home walking and maybe, somehow, with pollen still swirling around, they got the best of me and boom! Snot and headache in the morning!

But I feel better now, and I can’t wait to post more 🙂 Future posts will mostly involve food (especially ice cream) and museums.
